چکیده

The problem of finding the minimum-energy configuration of particles on a lattice, subject to a generic short-ranged repulsive interaction, is studied analytically. The study is relevant to charge ordered states of interacting fermions, as described by the spinless Falicov–Kimball model. For a range of particle density including the half-filled case, it is shown that the minimum-energy states coincide with the large–U neutral ground state ionic configurations of the Falicov–Kimball model, thus providing a characterization of the latter as " most homogeneous " ionic arrangements. These obey hierarchical rules, leading to a sequence of phases described by the Farey tree. For lower densities, a new family of minimum-energy configurations is found, having the novel property that they are aperiodic even when the particle density is a rational number. In some cases there occurs local phase separation, resulting in an inherent sensitivity of the ground state to the detailed form of the interaction potential.

Starting from the meson-meson Green function in 3+1 dimensional quenched lattice QCD we calculate potentials between heavy-light mesons for various light-quark mass parameters. For the valence quarks we employ the staggered scheme. The resulting potentials turn out to be short ranged and attractive. A comparison with a tadpole improved action for the gauge fields is presented.

In this article we analyze a two dimensional lattice gauge theory based on a quantum group. The algebra generated by gauge fields is the lattice algebra introduced recently by A. in [1]. We define and study Wilson loops. This theory is quasi-topological as in the classical case, which allows us to compute the correlation functions of this theory on an arbitrary surface.

M ar 1 99 9 Ground states of lattice gases with “ almost ” convex repulsive interactions

To our best knowledge there is only one example of a lattice system with long-range two-body interactions whose ground states have been determined exactly: the onedimensional lattice gas with purely repulsive and strictly convex interactions. Its ground-state particle configurations do not depend on the rate of decay of the interactions and are known as the generalized Wigner lattices or the mo...

We construct a (1,2) heterotic string with gauge symmetry and determine its particle spectrum. This theory has a local N=1 worldsheet supersymmetry for left movers and a local N=2 worldsheet supersymmetry for right movers and describes particles in either two or three space-time dimensions. We show that fermionizing the bosons of the compactified N=1 space leads to a particle spectrum which has...
